Testimonials

Alopecia is a horrible experience. I lost almost all my hair within days and I needed to wear a wig for many months. Since having treatment from Galway Trichology Clinic my hair is growing back and I no longer wear the wig. Deborah was very knowledgeable about this condition, helpful and professional. I am very pleased with her customer care service.

Alopecia Totalis

I had an itchy, scaly, weeping scalp which was so embarrassing I could'nt even go to my GP. On meeting with Deborah I was relieved by her diagnoses and treatment which was so reasurring. People now comment on how healthy looking my hair is. I just wish I had gone to her sooner.
Ailbhe, Sligo
Pityriasis Amiantacea and Telogen Effluvium

After noticing that my hair was going a bit light I tried a few treatments that did'nt help. I had been doing some research into hair loss when I heard about Galway Trichology Clinic on the TV. I have been using some products that were recommended now for 18 months and I find that my hair has improved, it has stopped thinning and my scalp is a lot clearer.

About Trichology

Trichology is the scientific study of the hair and scalp.

The Institute of Trichologists, founded in 1902, is the foremost professional association for trichologists in the world.

For the protection of patients, The Institute of Trichologists publishes a Code of Professional Practice and Ethics, to which all practising trichologists who are registered members of the Institute abide.

Members of the Institute of Trichologists (M.I.T.) are professionals who are qualified to diagnose and treat hair and scalp disorders and diseases. They are easily recognised by the letters M.I.T. after their name.

As a registered member of the IOT, the Galway Trichology Clinic can provide specialist advice for all hair problems including wigs, hair transplants, hair loss, scalp problems, alopecia, dandruff, receding hair, baldness, hair thinning and hair growth.

About The Galway Trichology Clinic

Every hair and scalp problem needs special treatment. We treat all hair disorders and all types of hair loss, including the following:

  • Alopecia
  • Dandruff
  • Dermatitis
  • Eczema
  • Female and Male Pattern Hair Loss
  • Hair Damage
  • Hair Restoration Advice
  • Hair Shaft Disorders
  • Folliculitis
  • Pruritus
  • Psoriasis
  • Scaling
  • Seborrhoea

Hairs can be microscopically examined for Hair Shaft Abnormalities (HSA).

Hair is a serious business requiring serious attention by you every day. Everything in your life affects your hair, and more things damage your hair than you may realise. Brushing can damage it, as can using the wrong kind of comb.

Certain hairstyles, stress, bacterial infections, shock, illness, marriage, divorce, promotion, bereavement, styling equipment, hormones, diet, child birth and genetics; can all cause hair breakage or loss.

A Word on Ethics

In order to protect the public from the many unethical hair clinics that have sprung up in many of our major cities, the Registered Trichologist will always follow a strict Code of Ethics. You can expect to be charged a consultancy fee and if clinical treatment is recommended you will pay for each in-clinic treatment when it is carried out. This keeps the control of finances in your own pocket.

Some non-registered clinics will offer a free consultation as an inducement to get you into their premises. They will then offer a treatment requesting pre-payment, which can run into the hundreds. A Registered Trichologist does not operate in this way by their Code of Ethics.

Your First Visit to the Galway Trichology Clinic

After booking your Consultation, you will be required not to wash your hair for at least 48 hours before your visit, as shampooing can wash away some of the vital evidence needed to diagnose your problem. It is also useful to bring with you any herbal remedies and medication that you may use on a regular basis.

During consultation a Registered Trichologist examines your hair and may take samples for microscopical examination. Your Consultant may ask questions about your general health and medical history, your diet, lifestyle and how you look after your hair. Your Consultant may decide that blood testing of hormone levels, thyroid or iron levels are necessary or that your diet needs adjusting.

After a diagnosis and explanation of the problem, the best form of treatment or management will be suggested. All in all it is a holistic consultation for you well being, not just a hair and scalp examination. The idea is to seek out the cause of the problem, rather than just treating the symptom.

People visit for many different reasons, e.g. relief from various scalp conditions, treatment and advice about hair loss or simply to have their hair or scalp conditioned. Whatever the reason, we aim to significantly improve the health of their hair and scalp.
